Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about glass balustrades, installation, safety, compliance, and our services.

Installation & Timeline

How long does installation take?

Installation times vary depending on the complexity and size of the project. Most residential installations take 1-3 days. Commercial projects or complex multi-level installations may take longer. We'll provide a specific timeline during your site survey.

What is the lead time from order?

Lead times typically range from 2-4 weeks from order to delivery, depending on customization and current demand. We'll confirm specific timelines during your quotation process.

Do you provide site surveys and drawings?

Yes, we provide professional site surveys at no charge for most customers. We then create detailed drawings for your approval before manufacturing. This ensures accuracy and compliance.

Do you provide installation nationwide?

Yes, we install systems throughout the UK. We work with a network of certified installers to ensure quality and compliance regardless of location.

Safety & Building Regulations

Does the balustrade comply with Building Regulations?

Yes, all our systems are designed and installed to comply with Building Regulations (Approved Document K in England). We ensure proper height, strength, and safety standards are met for all installations.

Is a handrail required?

It depends on your local Building Regulations and the height of the balustrade. For heights below 1100mm, a handrail may not be required, but we can advise during your survey to ensure compliance with your area's regulations.

Glass & Materials

What glass thickness do you use?

We typically use 10mm or 12mm toughened glass depending on the span and application. Our engineers will recommend the appropriate thickness based on your specific requirements and regulations.

Is the glass toughened or laminated?

All our glass is toughened for safety. Laminated glass is available upon request for specific applications requiring additional safety or acoustic properties.

Can the glass be tinted or frosted?

Yes, we offer a range of options including tinted glass (solar control, grey, bronze) and frosted finishes. These can be customized to match your aesthetic preferences while maintaining safety standards.

Do you use marine grade stainless steel?

Yes, we use Grade 316 marine-grade stainless steel for all exposed metalwork, ensuring superior corrosion resistance, especially in coastal or harsh environments.

Will the stainless steel rust?

Our Grade 316 marine-grade stainless steel is highly corrosion-resistant and won't rust under normal conditions. In extreme coastal environments, occasional maintenance may be needed, but rust is extremely unlikely.

Installation Specifics

Can the system be installed onto decking or porcelain tiles?

Yes, our systems can be installed on both decking and porcelain tiles. We use appropriate fixing methods to ensure structural integrity. For decking, we ensure all posts are securely anchored to the underlying structure.

Can the balustrade be installed on stairs?

Yes, we specialize in stair glass balustrades. These require careful measurement and angled installation. We provide professional surveys and installation to ensure safety and compliance.

What fixing method do you use?

We use secure mechanical fixings appropriate to your substrate—either to concrete, masonry, or timber. All fixings are stainless steel and designed to meet Building Regulations for strength and durability.

Do you offer frameless options as well?

Yes, in addition to our framed systems, we offer frameless glass balustrades that provide an unobstructed view and modern aesthetic.

Service Options & Warranty

Do you offer supply only?

Yes, we can supply our systems for self-installation, though we strongly recommend professional installation to ensure Building Regulations compliance and proper structural integrity.

What warranty is included?

We provide a 10-year warranty on all glass and metalwork components, covering manufacturing defects. Installation workmanship is typically guaranteed for 5 years from completion.

Can posts and handrails be powder coated?

Yes, we offer a range of powder-coated finishes in addition to our standard stainless steel options. This allows greater design flexibility to match your architectural style.

Can existing balustrades be upgraded or replaced?

Yes, we can remove and replace existing balustrades with modern glass systems. We assess the existing structure during a survey to determine the best approach for your property.

Maintenance & Care

How do you clean and maintain the system?

Glass should be cleaned regularly with standard glass cleaner. Stainless steel can be maintained with warm soapy water or stainless steel cleaner. We provide detailed maintenance instructions with every installation.
